MUSICAL MICROCOSM
As a hub for all musicians, producers, music teachers, and music therapists, the Musical Microcosm aims to make music more accessible to the surrounding community in Bed-Stuy. Through providing casual performance spaces, a music library, and many gathering spaces, the building opens itself to the public. The central atrium opens the performance space within the building, allowing users to connect through sound rather than proximity in an age of social distancing. Inspired by the history and culture of jazz in the neighborhood, the Musical Microcosm acts as a sort of vertical Summer Stage, attempting to provide a place for this community to meet and live under one roof.
